Calendar Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The Hijri calendar is based on the physical sighting of the new crescent moon (Ru'yah). Since the moon is sighted at different times in different countries, the Hijri date can differ by 1–2 days between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. Pakistan follows the Ru'yah-e-Hilal Committee's announcements.
This calendar uses the Umm al-Qura calculation method, which is an approximation. For Islamic months (Ramadan, Dhul Hijjah, Muharram), actual dates may differ by 1 day from this calendar because Pakistan follows local moon sighting. Always follow the Ru'yah-e-Hilal Committee for confirmed Islamic dates in Pakistan.
In Islamic tradition, the day begins at sunset (Maghrib), not at midnight. So the night of Friday, for example, begins on Thursday evening after Maghrib. This is why Islamic dates on this calendar shift at Maghrib time, not midnight.
Hijri months alternate between 29 and 30 days. A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar year. This is why Islamic months shift earlier by ~11 days each Gregorian year.
Ramadan 2026 (1447 AH) is expected to begin around February 18, 2026, subject to moon sighting in Pakistan. Use this calendar to track it, but confirm the exact date with the Ru'yah-e-Hilal Committee announcement.
Yes — for general planning purposes. However, for critical matters like Zakat's Hawl (one lunar year) calculation, you should track the exact lunar date you started the year. Our Zakat Calculator handles the Hawl automatically.
